U.S.S. INDEPENDENCE
" . . . Yea, I know we are supposed to have
everything covered for painting,
but that's only the Chief's desk,
go ahead and paint it."
The men who provide the ship with interior spray
painting make up the Fifth Division of the Deck
Department. In addition to all interior painting,
they are also responsible for the maintenance
of the ship's hull. Anyone who has been TAD
to Side Cleaners knows only to well what is
involved there. They also man the sail locker,
keeping up with all the upholstry requirements
of the ship, keeping up with the life rafts, and
providing a rigging team to assist other divisions
and departments in moving things from here to there.
This, plus the high line rigging, the First Lieutenant's
storeroom and the phone distance line on the flight
deck for refueling and replenishment, is but
a few of their tasks.
