My Apologies
To those who have sent
their names and additional
information, that I have
not yet added.
This project has become
very large and though I
work on it almost every
day, it is impossible
for me to keep up.
I will continue to add the
names and information as
quickly as I can.

E Division 1966 - 1967
U.S.S. INDEPENDENCE CVA-62 Engineering Department
"Hello, Special Services . . . what? Laundry!
I dialed Special Services"
The IC men of E Division tell us that complaint is sometimes
the only conversation they have in a day . . just complaints
about the phone system. But maintaining over 900
telephones on the ship is no easy task.
The various work centers of the Electrical or "E" Division are
responsible for maintaining the ship's electrical power, lights.
sound powered telephone circuits, public address systems,
telephones, squawk boxes and all other electrical circuits.
Other E Division men run the battery locker, the catapult and
elevator shop, flight deck lighting, and the all important
electrical safety shop. And lest we forget . . the heart
of the INDY's off-duty entertainment . . the
movie booth belongs to E Division
The men of E Division cover a lot of territory from
the mast head lights to the gyros in after steering.

Had opportunities at various times to visit INDY (CVA-62) while she underwent SLEP
in Philly, and also when she was moved to Coronado and then again when she was
assigned to YOKO but never could find the time. Now I can kick myself in the
butt for not having done so! She was a steamer.........the Steaming Deamon
of Freedom. USS stood for "Underway Saturdays and Sundays" |
