OC Division 1968 - 1969
U.S.S. INDEPENDENCE
"Phantom 201 on final, turn 085."
The safe, orderly flow of aircraft to an from
INDEPENDENCE is the direct responsibility
of the OC Division. The division is manned
by some 30 Air-controlmen. Divided into
two sections, Air Operations is where the
daily air plan is made up and the status of
all aircraft is monitored.
The second section is CCA, which stands for
carrier controlled approach. CCA maintains
operational control of all outbound and
inbound flights within 50 miles of the
ship. During darlness or bad weather,
Radar control is provided all aircraft
departing or arriving on the ship.
