OE Division 1962 - 1963 U.S.S. INDEPENDENCE CVA-62
Operations Department
"Can you have an ET come and fix this radar?"
OE is the home of the electronic wizards of INDY. This division is tasked
with maintaining the ship's intricate electronic systems. The electronics
technicians of OE Division are trouble-shooters who locate and repair any
problem which may develop in any one of the nearly five hundred pieces of
major electronic equipment, including the important ship's entertainment
TV system.
The range of responsibility of OE Division's technicians extends from the
most basic switch to a multitude of complex and highly advanced electronic
systems and device. Divisional training and personal study helps the
technicians keep abreast of the current developments in the
rapidly expanding electronics field.

After 3-1/2 years in the Navy, Indy was my
first shipboard sea duty. Not sure that I
fully appreciated all that it was (I got out in
August 62); but, when I re-upped in
October 62, I understood that Indy had
"done me good"! |

Have told many young men contemplating
the military, that there is no duty in any
service quite like duty aboard an aircraft
carrier. In spite of all of the grumbling,
and hard work. I look back on that time
with a great deal of pride and satisfaction. |
