* A Story from Stan Richardson *
During carrier quals in the Atlantic, there was a
pilot from our squadron that was having trouble
night qualifying. It seemed that every night he
could get off the ship, but never back on. It came
down that he either qualified or departed company.
I was the night Quality Control flight deck person.
The 1MC had just called an A 7 on the ball with
the RA 5C in the groove. I started up to the flight
deck as the A 7 made his approach. Unfortuately
he left his landing gear on the stern of the flight
deck and he ejected half way down the deck.
He was later picked up with no problems.
Of course this fouled the deck and the Vigilante
had to circle while waiting clean up. I was sure
that it wasn't doing the pilot any good at this
point and figured he was set for another bingo trip.
But to my surprise, he made one of the best
landings that I ever saw and caught the target wire.
It's amazing what one can do when their backside is in the sling.

I was assigned to RVAH-12 Apr 67 to Mar 69. I worked in the photo interatation area.
I have a problem, I am receiving counseling
for stuff that is coming up for me from my
west-pac cruise in 67.
We had a plane that was pushed over the side
by accident and the plane captain was inside
and was killed, I can't find any record of
this and now I feel I might of imagined IT.
Can anyone help me. |
