VQ-2 "Sandeman" U.S.S. INDEPENDENCE
VQ-2 Established 01 Sep 1955 - Homeported
U. S. Naval Air Station, Port Lyautey, Morocco.
Originally Designated (ECMRON TWO)
Electronic Countermeasures Squadron TWO
In January 1960, Transferred to present homeport,
Naval Station, Rota, Spain. It was then renamed,
Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron TWO (VQ-2).

P4M-1Q Mercator & P2V Neptune (original planes)
A3D-1Q Skywarrior (added September 1956)
WV-2Q Super Constellations (replaced P4M-1Q 1960)
redesignated
EC-121M Super Constellation October 1962
EC-121M aircraft were operated and maintained into 1974.
A3D-2Q replaced the A3D-1Q then redesignated EA-3B
EP-3E ARIES (first received 31 July 1971
EP-3E ARIES II (first received 29 June 1991
(The EA-3B Skywarrior was retired from VQ-2, 20 Sep.1991)
